As long as you keep your head to the sky

Welcome to the end of 2022. It has been a supremely challenging, intense and deeply rewarding year for me, and so many of us. We have so many challenges we are all navigating in our personal lives, as well as our professional lives. So often when I coach folks, and do speaking engagements, people share how overwhelmed they are by the thought of how much work there is to do to make this society more equitable so that people of all identities can truly thrive.

It’s true: there is so much work to do, and it can overwhelm us to the point where we feel like nothing we do will really make a difference. However, my career over the last 27 years has shown me that change happens in the tiniest of increments, and sometimes in the smallest spheres of influence. And it all matters. When we all take responsibility to know our identities, query our histories, and feed our curiosity, people shift, organizations shift, and ultimately, systems and society shifts.

When we work in community, and center our shared humanity and connection, we begin to access hope and joy in the work. We do this work, knowing that we will not see the big bold change we wish to see in our lifetimes. And yet, we persevere for the sake of our children’s children’s children.

I am so very proud of the work I have led at Anahsa, LLC in 2022. I’ve led during a raging pandemic, while managing my chronic illness, and navigating a host of transitions in my personal and professional life. I have been honored to provide information, support and inspiration to so many people and organizations. I have an incredible team of Black and Brown women who amaze me with their expertise and belief in my leadership vision for societal change. I have a community of friends and family who lift me constantly, with text check ins, hilarious memes, and informative articles. I am fortunate to have clients who are fired up for change, and who trust me to support them in articulating and implementing their visions for equity. I live in a perpetual state of deep gratitude.

I invite you to take a look at our highlights and impact for 2022, and to stay connected with us in 2023. As some of my Jamaican brethren say: “Big tings a gwan."
